In contrast to conventional audio data, the AES/EBU signal cannot be split without any further ado. The use of Y-cables would cause reflections and thus impairments in the cable. For example if in a studio situation the AES/EBU signal is to be transmitted simultaneously to a DAT recorder and to another recording medium, then the DAV-113 has to be used. This applies in particular for physically separated recording locations which are to be served with an identical signal simultaneously. DAV-113 prepares the data, avoids the usual recurrent networks with corresponding leadtime delays and guarantees perfect transmission.
